Firefighters Contain Field Fires in Hannover and Grimma, Germany
On Saturday afternoon a field fire broke out between Kolenfeld and Wunstorf in the Hannover region. About one hectare of stubble burned, but rapid action by the Wunstorf fire department, support from nearby municipal fire units and farmer‑created firebreaks prevented the blaze from spreading to adjacent wheat fields, protecting more than 20 hectares of crops. Around 50 firefighters were involved and the police opened an investigation into the cause.
The following day a separate field fire occurred between Seidewitz and Tanndorf near Grimma in Saxony after a balen press ignited during field work. The fire spread over roughly three hectares and threatened a nearby forest. Drones from neighbouring fire stations provided aerial monitoring while local farmers assisted with equipment and water supplies. No injuries were reported and the flames were fully extinguished after coordinated efforts, though the exact cause remains unclear.
