Firefighters extinguish burning caravan on Stockach-West highway in Germany

On 6 August 2026 at about 15:30, the Fire Department of Stockach was dispatched to a full‑scale fire involving a caravan parked on the side of the Stockach‑West highway junction, direction Kreuz Hegau. Smoke was visible from a distance as the crew arrived and the caravan was already engulfed, with flames spreading to the adjacent slope and grass strip.

Firefighters launched a protected‑breathing‑equipment attack using a C‑hose, while a second C‑hose was deployed to contain the spreading grass fire. The caravan burned to its metal frame and was fully destroyed. Water supply was initially provided by a rescue‑group vehicle and later by a dedicated tank‑fire‑engine. The Fire Department of Orsingen‑Nenzingen was called in to assist from an over‑pass, allowing crews to extinguish the hillside and remaining hot spots from above. After roughly 30 minutes the fire was under control, followed by extensive after‑fire checks, recovery of two gas cylinders and hand‑over of the site to police and highway authorities. The operation involved four fire vehicles and lasted about an hour.
