Firefighters hold global tributes for 9/11 anniversary
Firefighters in Quebec and France are organizing commemorative events to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, World Trade Center attacks.
In Quebec, 106 firefighters are participating in the 2026 Relais des pompiers. The relay race involves traversing over 90 segments, ranging from four to nine kilometers each, while wearing full combat gear and breathing apparatus. The route begins at the Montreal Burn Unit and concludes at the Quebec City unit.
In Arras, France, 130 firefighters from the Pas-de-Calais region will perform 343 ascents of the Arras belfry to honor the number of firefighters lost in the attacks. The event includes participants from the United States, specifically from Liberty Township, Ohio, to represent international solidarity. Proceeds from related initiatives, such as commemorative art, are intended to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
