Firefighters in Portugal conduct training and competitive challenges

Firefighters in Portugal are engaging in various operational exercises and physical challenges. In Viseu, the FIRESTORM Challenge was held, an obstacle course designed to simulate the physical demands of emergency operations. Participants, including members from the Malveira Volunteer Firefighters, navigated a one-kilometer course featuring tunnels, stone walls, stairs, and heavy equipment such as hoses and extinguishers. The competition required firefighters to wear full structural personal protective equipment and breathing apparatus.

In Mourão, the Mourão Volunteer Firefighters are conducting a large-scale operational exercise in a vacant building. The drill focuses on high-complexity rescue techniques, including search and rescue, victim extraction, structural stabilization, and vehicle extrication. The training involves the use of simulated accident vehicles and unstable structures. Local authorities have issued warnings to the public to avoid the training site due to the real physical risks associated with the equipment and structures used during the simulation.
