Firefighters restore roads after storms and landslides hit Belluno province
Severe weather on 6–7 August 2026 battered the Belluno province in northeastern Italy, triggering landslides, fallen trees and road blockages across the Cadore area. The Belluno fire brigade (Vigili del Fuoco) carried out more than forty urgent technical rescues, clearing mud, debris and uprooted trees from streets and mountain paths.
Key actions included reopening the SS52 in Lozzo di Cadore after trees fell on the carriageway, removing debris on the road between Pra Ciadelan and the Capanna degli Alpini refuge in Calalzo di Cadore, and a precautionary closure of the SS51 at Dogana Vecchia in San Vito di Cadore while sensors were checked. About 60 scouts staying in a mountain hut near the Calalzo landslide were unharmed. No injuries were reported, and normal traffic resumed after the crews completed the work.
