Firefly Aerospace secures NASA and Department of Defense contracts
Firefly Aerospace has secured two significant federal contracts from NASA and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Under a new Spacecraft Processing Operations Contract from NASA, Firefly is eligible to compete for task orders providing payload processing, fueling, integration, and encapsulation services. These services will support NASA missions launching from Vandenberg Space Force Base. The company’s Payload Processing Facility (PPF) is located near its Space Launch Complex 2 and includes an ISO 8 cleanroom to accommodate small and medium-size payloads.
Additionally, Firefly has signed a pact with the Department of Defense, specifically through the Defense Innovation Unit and the Space Development Agency. This contract involves a preliminary design review for a deorbit mission aimed at clearing space debris from operational orbits. The company is also currently working on a space domain awareness mission using the Elytra spacecraft.
