Fatal accidents and fires sweep Brazil on July 31, 2026

A 30‑metre fall at a work site in São José do Cedro, Santa Catarina killed a 25‑year‑old foreign worker and injured another employee. Later that morning a loaded paper‑chip truck overturned on the SC‑350 near Santa Cecília, leaving the 33‑year‑old driver with head injuries and suspected broken ribs.

Several fires were reported across the country. In Sobradinho a chimney fire was quickly extinguished after a resident used a garden hose. A textile shop in Vitória de Santo Antão burned extensively but no one was hurt. Near Barretos, a vegetation fire started in a bamboo thicket and scorched about 1,000 m² before firefighters contained it. In Limeira, a workshop fire damaged a building and a vehicle, with no injuries reported.

In Espírito Santo, a landslide at a beverage‑distribution site in Cariacica collapsed a retaining wall, killing four workers—including the site owner—and burying a fifth who remains missing. The same incident was described in a separate report of a wall collapse at the same location, confirming the fatalities and the ongoing rescue effort.
