Fires in Hortolândia and São João da Varjota, Brazil, cause damage

On the night of 4 August 2026 a fire broke out at a mechanical workshop in Hortolândia, São Paulo state. The blaze started inside a vehicle, quickly spreading through the workshop and destroying five customer cars while three were rescued. No injuries were reported, and the owner, who lacks insurance, is awaiting an investigation into the cause.

Later the same day, a separate fire ignited vegetation in the José Paulino community of São João da Varjota, Piauí. The flames threatened nearby houses and the BR‑230 highway, prompting the state fire brigade to battle the blaze for four hours before extinguishing it. Residents were advised on fire‑prevention measures. Both incidents resulted in property loss but no reported casualties.
