Fires in Switzerland and Austria cause significant property damage
Two separate major fires occurred on Thursday afternoon in Herznach, Switzerland, and Fußach, Austria, causing significant property damage but no injuries.
In Herznach, a fire broke out in an underground garage of an apartment building. The blaze destroyed five cars, a motorcycle, and two e-scooters. While firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to the main building, several apartments became uninhabitable due to smoke and water supply disruptions. Preliminary investigations by the Aargau Cantonal Police suggest the fire may have been triggered by the batteries of two e-scooters. The municipality has provided emergency accommodation for displaced residents.
In Fußach, Austria, a large-scale operation was launched to combat a fire in a residential complex. Of the eight units in the building, six were affected by the flames. Approximately 70 firefighters and 15 vehicles responded to the scene. The incident caused significant damage to the building and required the temporary closure of the L202 state road. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the outbreak.
