Fires reported in Bonlez and Salperwick agricultural areas

Multiple agricultural fires were reported in Bonlez and Salperwick on Tuesday evening, highlighting heightened fire risks due to dry conditions.

In Bonlez, a fire broke out in two farm barns, starting in a barn containing straw bales before spreading to a second barn housing agricultural equipment. Local authorities, including the mayor of Chaumont-Gistoux, confirmed that farm animals were successfully evacuated to nearby pastures and no injuries were reported. While the fire caused significant smoke visible as far as Nivelles, the situation was brought under control by Wednesday morning, though monitoring continues.

In Salperwick, two separate fires occurred at opposite ends of the village. One fire started on a roadside and spread to a field of dry wheat stubble, while another was reportedly caused by an electrocuted bird hitting power lines. In both instances, firefighters and local farmers worked together to contain the flames using water and sprayers to prevent further spread.
