FireWatch platform uses AI and satellite data for wildfire detection
FireWatch, an intelligent early warning platform, is utilizing artificial intelligence and satellite data to improve the detection and monitoring of forest fires. Developed in collaboration with partners including CNES, Kayrros, and France 2030, the platform integrates heterogeneous data streams such as satellite imagery, radar, and meteorological information to create a consolidated view of the landscape.
The system functions through a multi-step process: collecting and fusing data, using AI models to detect abnormal surface variations or nascent fires, and qualifying these detections by intensity, direction, and wind. This allows for the real-time mapping of exposed zones and the prioritization of alerts, providing firefighters with rapid access to evolving situations to better direct resources.
