During the patron saint festivities for Santa María Magdalena on the night of 31 July in Xico, Veracruz, a traditional pyrotechnic “torito” called “El Huérfano” malfunctioned. The structure lost control and fireworks were projected into the crowd, causing superficial and partial burns to 21 attendees. Emergency personnel from the local civil protection and fire services provided immediate first‑aid at a temporary medical module; authorities reported that no victims required hospital transfer, although some early rumors suggested otherwise.
