Firmes political party holds National Assembly in Guatemala

The new political party Firmes held its National Assembly in Guatemala City, marking the beginning of its formal participation in the country’s political life. Led by Nery Ramos, the first Vice President of Congress, the assembly gathered over 500 attendees to officially present the party’s organizational structure and core proposals.

The party is composed primarily of legislators who have separated from or been expelled from their previous political groups, including members from Visión con Valores, Cabal, Voluntad, Oportunidad y Solidaridad, and the Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza. Notable figures supporting the project include former President Alfonso Portillo Cabrera and Deputy Evelyn Morataya.

During the event, the party established its National Executive Committee (CEN) and elected a Tribunal of Honor. Elmer Joel Ramos was named Secretary General. Ramos, a former director of the National Civil Police, emphasized that the party aims to address national security and represent a new style of politics distinct from traditional practices. He is considered a potential presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
