Firmus abandons $30 billion IPO amid valuation concerns

Australian AI infrastructure developer Firmus has withdrawn its initial public offering before shares could begin trading. The decision follows intense investor scrutiny regarding the company’s proposed valuation and the massive financing required for its AI data-center expansion.

Firmus, which transitioned from cryptocurrency mining to high-performance computing, saw its valuation rise from approximately $10.5 billion in August to nearly $30 billion or as high as $44 billion just prior to the planned float. Despite backing from major entities including Nvidia and Blackstone, the proposed A$11 share price failed to attract sufficient institutional demand.

The collapse of the offering has impacted the broader artificial intelligence and semiconductor sectors. Following the news, shares in neocloud leader CoreWeave fell nearly 16 percent, and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index experienced a significant decline. The event has also raised questions for early investors regarding how to value their stakes following the failed public debut.
