Firmus Grid prepares for major Australian AI infrastructure IPO

Firmus Grid is preparing for a major initial public offering (IPO) on the Australian sharemarket, targeting the growing demand for hyperscale data center infrastructure and artificial intelligence processing. The company operates as a ‘neocloud’ business, renting specialized processing chips to major technology firms such as Meta, OpenAI, and Nvidia.

The proposed IPO has sparked significant debate among investors due to its ambitious valuation. While some estimates, including those from Morgan Stanley, suggest a valuation as high as $90 billion, other market commentators and fund managers have expressed skepticism. Plato Investment Management has indicated plans to short-sell the stock, arguing that the valuation assumes ‘five years of flawless execution from a loss-making business with barely a track record.’

Key concerns cited by critics include the high capital expenditure required for such infrastructure and the risk of rapid hardware obsolescence, as new GPU technology is released annually. Firmus Grid is positioning Australia as a strategic location for its expansion, citing more efficient permitting processes and clearer property rights compared to other regions.
