Alsym Energy and ERITY sign 9 GWh sodium‑ion battery deal for off‑grid mining operations
Alsym Energy, a developer of non‑flammable sodium‑ion batteries, and the mining‑services firm ERITY have signed a strategic relationship agreement for the supply and deployment of 9 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) to replace diesel generators at remote mining sites. The partnership will initially target projects of Volt Resources Limited and Resource Minerals International Limited in Tanzania, Saudi Arabia, Finland and the United States, with plans for renewable‑powered micro‑grids, AI‑enabled mobile data centres, electric mining equipment and portable BESS units. Alsym’s sodium‑ion technology is promoted for its flexibility in installation and reduced thermal‑runaway risk compared with conventional lithium‑ion cells. The deal adds to Alsym’s recent commercial commitments, which total 18 GWh announced within the past sixty days, underscoring a rapid expansion of the company’s market presence in the energy‑intensive mining sector. ERITY, active on six continents, expects the batteries to cut operating diesel costs, lower greenhouse‑gas emissions and enable continuous 24‑hour power supply for critical mineral extraction and processing.
