First Atlantic Bank opens in Liberia, strengthening Ghana-Liberia ties
First Atlantic Bank inaugurated its Liberian branch in Monrovia on July 31, 2026. Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, described the opening as a new chapter in commercial cooperation between Ghana and Liberia and a practical demonstration of Pan‑African trade and finance. He urged Liberian companies to consider investing in Ghana’s key sectors, including rubber, and highlighted support for women‑owned businesses, young entrepreneurs, and agricultural market linkages.
President Joseph Boakai officially inaugurated the bank, and Ampem emphasized that the expansion reflects Ghanaian banks’ growing capacity to compete beyond national borders, positioning African capital as a driver of the continent’s economic transformation.
