First FM celebrates 30th anniversary in Northern Cyprus
First FM, a pioneer of private broadcasting in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, is marking its 30th anniversary. The radio station began its trial broadcasts on November 1, 1996, following official permission granted in October of that year.
BHA TİMBİR President Basa and Interior Minister Dursun Oğuz issued congratulatory messages regarding the milestone. Basa highlighted the station as a historical starting point for media diversity and free broadcasting in the region, specifically commending founder Ertan Birinci for his role in developing the media landscape.
Minister Oğuz noted that the station has served as a symbol of press freedom and social voice, helping to connect different generations through music, news, and culture. He emphasized that maintaining a broadcasting institution for three decades requires significant dedication and adaptation to a changing world.
