First International Forum of Tourism and Local Governments held in Uruguay
The First International Forum of Tourism and Local Governments took place in Treinta y Tres from August 12 to 14. Organized by the local Intendencia and the Latin American Federation of Tourist Cities, with support from the Office of Planning and Budget (OPP), the event brought together national and departmental authorities along with approximately 40 delegates from regional countries.
The forum focused on sustainable development, territorial tourism management, decentralization, sports tourism, and smart tourism. Key discussions included identity, popular festivals, and youth development policies.
During the congress, a meeting between tourism directors, Minister Pablo Menoni, and national officials led to the announcement of a new statistical data platform. The event also reaffirmed the articulation of regional corridors and active territorial governance. Additionally, the Ministry confirmed progress on the National Model of Smart Tourist Destinations (DTI), which is currently in a diagnostic stage across nine selected local destinations, focusing on governance, innovation, digital transformation, accessibility, and sustainability.
