First Lady Eva Pavlová skips municipal elections in Černouček
First Lady Eva Pavlová has announced she will not participate in the municipal elections in Černouček, where she has served as a member of the local council. Her office stated that her absence is not a sign of indifference toward public affairs, but rather an exercise of her “right to rest” and a sign of trust in the local citizens.
Pavlová used the occasion to criticize current Czech election laws, noting that citizens cannot vote from abroad or from other locations within the country. She expressed hope that future regulations would allow participation for those traveling for work or living away from their permanent residence.
Interior Minister Lubomír Metnar rejected the call for systemic changes, stating that the national voting system will not be adjusted due to the private schedules or vacation plans of the President or First Lady.
President Petr Pavel, who had initially planned to miss the elections due to a foreign trip, returned to the Czech Republic to cast his vote. He described his previous decision to skip the vote as a “error of judgment.”
