First Phosphate's Bégin-Lamarche Project Gains Quebec Filon Support

First Phosphate Corp. announced that its Bégin‑Lamarche igneous rock phosphate mining project in the Saguenay‑Lac‑Saint‑Jean region of Quebec has been selected for “Filon” accelerated support by the Quebec Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests. The Filon programme is designed to speed up permitting and development milestones for critical and strategic mineral projects. Minister Kateri Champagne Jourdain said the project transforms Quebec’s geological potential into an economic advantage, while CEO John Passalacqua noted the deposit’s strategic value for on‑shoring the lithium‑iron‑phosphate (LFP) battery supply chain in North America.

In a sponsored interview, Passalacqua explained that high‑purity phosphate from igneous sources is essential for LFP cathodes and outlined the company’s recent financing, a runway to a feasibility study and a production goal of 2029. He highlighted the growing G7 focus on diversifying LFP supply away from China and emphasized management’s alignment with shareholders.
