First responders cycle 343 miles from Boston to Ground Zero

Hundreds of participants, including first responders, relatives of victims, and FDNY firefighters, have begun a 343-mile cycling journey from Boston to Ground Zero in New York City. The event, known as the 9/11 First Responder Ride for Resilience, is designed to honor the 343 firefighters who lost their lives during the September 11 attacks. The distance of the ride is symbolic of that number.

Organized by the non-profit Friends of Firefighters in partnership with Livestrong, the ride also aims to support survivors struggling with long-term physical and mental health challenges. According to the World Trade Center Health Program, approximately 14% of firefighters and EMS providers deal with depression, while 6% suffer from PTSD.

The five-day event concludes with a ceremony at Ground Zero. This marks the third annual cycling fundraiser hosted by Friends of Firefighters, following two previous events held in Ireland.
