FirstPower confirms arrest of two suspects for transformer vandalism in Anambra
FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has confirmed the arrest of two suspects, Nonso Okolodile and Emeka Onyeugwo, for the alleged vandalization of a transformer at the Urunkpuke Distribution Substation (DSS) in Nimo, Anambra State.
The suspects were apprehended by the Nimo Vigilante Group following a report from the company’s local Feeder Manager. Authorities recovered a tool allegedly used in the act, along with parts of the vandalized equipment, from the scene. The transformer is considered a critical asset for electricity distribution in the Njikoka Local Government Area.
The individuals are currently being held at the Nimo Divisional Police Station for preliminary investigation. FirstPower has requested their transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka for further inquiry. The company noted that such vandalism disrupts community power supplies and imposes significant costs on the distribution system.
