FIS postpones World Championships and reports financial decline

During the FIS autumn meetings in Geneva, the International Ski Federation made several key decisions regarding its sporting calendar and financial health. The proposal to hold an additional pilot edition of the World Championships in 2028 was abandoned due to concerns that tight timelines would compromise event quality and commercial value. Instead, the plan has been postponed to 2032.

Financially, the federation faces challenges, with a report presented by the new administration showing that FIS net equity decreased by 47% between 2021 and 2025. The leadership team includes President Alexander Ospelt and interim Secretary General Urs Lehmann.

In terms of the competitive calendar, Carezza Dolomites has been confirmed to host two World Cup events. Snowboard competitions are scheduled for December 17, and telemark races will take place on January 14 and 15. The snowboard event on the Pra di Tori track marks the first seasonal World Cup event in South Tyrol.
