Fisabio launches BronquiVal clinical trial for RSV vaccine

The Valencian Health Ministry has launched the BronquiVal clinical trial, a large-scale study led by the Fisabio Foundation’s Vaccine Research Area. The investigation aims to evaluate how vaccination against the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) impacts hospitalizations caused by respiratory and cardiac complications in individuals aged 60 and older.

The study intends to recruit 100,000 participants and involves more than 1,600 healthcare professionals across 282 primary care centers and nine preventive medicine services in the Valencian Community. The trial is designed as a pragmatic study, meaning it will be conducted under conditions identical to routine medical care. Participants will not need to attend additional appointments for the research, as health variables and events will be monitored directly through electronic clinical records.

The study specifically targets individuals aged 60 or older who are not already scheduled to receive the RSV vaccine under the official autumn-winter 2026-2027 vaccination campaign guidelines.
