Fiscal deficits rise in France and the Czech Republic

Public finances are facing significant pressure in both France and the Czech Republic due to rising budget deficits.

In France, a combination of high budget deficits, weak economic growth, and rising government bond yields is creating risks for long-term debt sustainability. Analysts note that the ratio of government debt to nominal GDP is a critical indicator of fiscal health, requiring structural reforms and deficit reductions to restore investor confidence.

In the Czech Republic, the state budget deficit reached 230.9 billion CZK by the end of October, representing 74.5 percent of the approved annual deficit of 310 billion CZK. This figure marks a year-on-year worsening of 47.8 billion CZK. When adjusted to exclude European Union funds and related expenditures, the deficit deepened by 68.4 billion CZK year-on-year to 243.4 billion CZK. Despite the deficit, investment spending increased by 15.1 percent, with significant allocations toward transport infrastructure, defense, and internal affairs.
