Fiscozen study: Italian freelancers prioritize location independence
A study by tech company Fiscozen reveals a growing trend among Italian freelancers toward location-independent work. According to the survey of 1,143 professionals, 73% cited the ability to work from anywhere as a primary motivation for opening a Partita IVA (VAT number).
While many desire the freedom to travel, the data shows a contradiction: most professionals only travel for short periods, typically less than a week per year. Despite this, the lifestyle remains highly valued, with 37% of respondents stating they would not give up this flexibility for any amount of money. Approximately half of those surveyed expect to increase their travel in 2027.
Istat data indicates that roughly 3.4 million people in Italy work regularly from remote locations. Of these, an estimated 350,000 independent professionals move regularly in search of a better quality of life. This group has more than doubled in the last six years, driven by factors such as the rising cost of living, urban stress, and shifts in the labor market.
