12‑year‑old girl drowns at Costacabana beach in Almería

On Saturday, a 12‑year‑old girl died after being rescued from the sea at Costacabana beach in Almería, Spain. An 18:55 emergency alert triggered a coordinated response that included Police National, local police, the 061 medical service, Salvamento Marítimo, Civil Protection and the municipal beach service. The rescue teams located the child and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but she could not be revived.

The incident was the second fatal drowning on the Almería coast that day; earlier a 31‑year‑old woman had drowned at Playa de Los Muertos in Carboneras. A police spokesperson confirmed the girl's death. Authorities noted the need for caution given strong Levante winds and high surf conditions.

No further injuries were reported, and investigations into the circumstances of both drownings are ongoing.
