Fisherman found dead in Kabaena waters after being reported missing

A 62-year-old fisherman, La Parinta, has been found dead after being reported missing in the waters of Kabaena, Bombana Regency.

The incident began when a longboat belonging to the victim was discovered without a passenger in the waters between Telaga Raya and East Kabaena on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The victim had reportedly gone out to sea on Friday, August 21.

Following a report from a local resident, the Kendari Search and Rescue Office (KPP Kendari) deployed a joint SAR team, including personnel from Baubau and the Navy, to conduct a search operation. On Sunday, August 23, 2026, at approximately 01:35 WITA, the team located the victim floating approximately 3.85 nautical miles north of the initial incident site. The body was evacuated and handed over to the family for burial.
