Fisherman survives after sinking vessel near Gianh estuary

Nguyễn Mạnh Cường, the captain of the fishing vessel QB-93230-TS, has returned home safely after being missing for nearly eight hours following a shipwreck near the Gianh estuary in Quảng Trị.

The vessel, which was used for crab trap fishing, suddenly sank on October 9 at approximately 11:55 AM while moving into the estuary, about 3.5 nautical miles from the shore. A nearby fishing boat, QB-98190-TS, managed to reach the scene and rescue three crew members. However, Captain Cường was initially reported missing.

Following a coordinated search effort by local border guards and other fishing vessels, Cường managed to swim and drift to the coast of Đông Trạch village at approximately 7:30 PM. Local authorities and residents provided him with food, water, and clothing before arranging transport to his home. He is reported to be in stable condition.
