Fisherman rescues juvenile great white shark at Los Angeles beach

A fisherman on Sunset Point Beach in Los Angeles pulled an 8‑foot shark, believed to be a juvenile great white, from the sand and returned it to the Pacific. Witnesses said the shark swam away into Santa Monica Bay after the rescue.

Marine experts note a surge in juvenile great white sightings along Southern California this summer, attributing the increase to unusually warm El Niño waters that create a near‑shore nursery habitat. Dr. Chris Lowe of California State University, Long Beach warned that the region can expect a "very sharky summer."
