Fisherman Samuel Chi Found Dead After Belize Sea Search

Two Belizean fishermen, Samuel Chi and Albert Vaccaro, went missing Sunday night while traveling from Caye Caulker to the mainland. A joint search and rescue operation led by the Belize Coast Guard, along with the Belize Port Authority and the Belize Fisheries Department, was launched.

Vaccaro was located the following morning, floating southwest of Hicks Caye, dehydrated but alive. Later that morning, Chi's body was recovered about eight miles north of Belize City, near the same area where Vaccaro was found. Authorities have turned the case over to police to determine whether the incident was an accident or involved foul play, while families mourn the loss.

The investigation continues as officials seek to understand what happened to the vessel the men were using and the circumstances that left them stranded at sea.
