Fishermen in Indonesia and Malaysia receive technological training and AI tools

In Bekasi Regency, Indonesia, the local Fisheries Department has conducted Global Positioning System (GPS) training for fishermen in Tarumajaya. The initiative aims to improve technological literacy, allowing fishermen to navigate more effectively and access maritime weather forecasts from the BMKG application to mitigate risks such as high waves and strong winds.

In Malaysia, a pilot program is introducing Afli, an artificial intelligence-based fishing application developed by Iceland's GreenFish hf. The technology, distributed through Supratechnic (M) Sdn Bhd, uses AI, satellite monitoring, and oceanographic data to predict high-potential fishing areas. The pilot project involves 50 fishermen across the East and West coasts of Peninsular Malaysia to test the tool's effectiveness during the monsoon season before a full commercial launch.
