Fishermen remain missing in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic

Two fishermen from the Buen Hombre community in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic, remain missing more than 45 days after departing for sea on July 15, 2026. The missing individuals have been identified as Delson López and José Dionicio Cabrera Ventura, also known as Piyayo.

Following their disappearance, authorities conducted a maritime and aerial search operation involving aircraft, but the search was discontinued after one day without finding any traces. In response, local fishermen organized their own search efforts, utilizing groups of six to eight vessels to scout areas near Haiti, Cuba, and other nearby islands. Despite these efforts, no evidence of their whereabouts has been found.
