Fishermen Tragedies in Argentina and Venezuela Claim Lives

In Puerto Madryn, Argentina, the fishing vessel Cabo Vírgenes returned to the Almirante Storni dock with the body of 50‑year‑old sailor Haldi Morales, who fell overboard during a fishing maneuver. In Caraballeda, Venezuela, fisherman Víctor Calderón has been searching for the remains of 26 relatives lost when the OPP‑27 housing complex collapsed during the June 24 earthquakes. Calderón, who survived the quake at sea, recounted feeling the tremor on his boat: "Eso me estremeció la lancha por allá por fuera, horrible." He and neighbors have been manually removing rubble to recover bodies, praising the limited assistance from heavy‑machinery crews.
