Several regional initiatives aimed at promoting local fish consumption and maritime culture have concluded in Catalonia, Spain.
The ‘La Classe dels Peixets’ project, supported by the Ebro Sea Local Action Group (GALP) and organized by SUD Gastronòmic, reached 2,400 primary school students across several municipalities, including L’Ametlla de Mar, Deltebre, and Sant Jaume d’Enveja. The program, co-financed by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) and the Generalitat de Catalunya, combined nutritional education with hands-on cooking sessions led by chef Albert Guzmán and insights from local fishermen.
In Tarragona, the ‘Tu compres, nosaltres cuinem!’ campaign completed its third edition, serving over 2,500 portions of fresh fish at the Central Market and Torreforta Market. The initiative offered various fish varieties for one euro during select days in August and September. To further encourage local commerce, 500 digital shopping vouchers worth five euros each were distributed to customers at the Central Market to be used at local fishmongers.
