Fishery sectors in Mexico and Argentina implement new services and transparency measures

In Mexico, the Secretariat of Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sepasy) conducted an integrated service day in Telchac Puerto, Yucatán. The initiative provided fishing community members with free medical checkups, including blood pressure, glucose, and dental services, coordinated with the Yucatán Health Secretariat. Additionally, the program offered guidance on administrative procedures, registrations, and government support to reduce the need for residents to travel to central offices.

In Argentina, legislative leaders Maximiliano Ferraro and Edith Terenzi hosted a meeting at the National Congress to discuss fishery transparency. The session included environmental organizations, technical bodies, and the private sector. Discussions focused on three pillars for sustainable policy: improving access to public information, establishing a public registry of fishing vessels and permits, and ensuring catch traceability. The goal is to advance pending legislation regarding vessel registration and fishery traceability.
