Fishing festivals promote culture and economy in Amazonas

Regional fishing festivals are being held in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, to promote local culture, gastronomy, and economic development.

In the Brasília community near Parintins, the 10th Shrimp Festival (Festa do Camarão) is underway. The event features traditional shrimp fishing, culinary competitions, and local artistic performances. The festival is a multi-generational tradition intended to generate income for local families and support the primary sector through sustainable management.

Simultaneously, Caroebe is hosting the fourth edition of the Tucunaré Sport Fishing Festival at Lago do Jatapu. The event includes fishing tournaments, business fairs, and cultural attractions, with organizers expecting up to 6,000 visitors. The festival aligns with local conservation efforts, such as Municipal Law No. 298, which prohibits commercial fishing of certain species like the tucunaré to promote catch-and-release sport fishing and tourism.
