Fishing popularity rises among youth in Świętokrzyskie

Fishing is experiencing a significant surge in popularity among children and adolescents in the Świętokrzyskie region of Poland. According to Michał Bień, director of the Polish Angling Association (PZW) District Office in Kielce, while the number of adult permit holders remains stable at approximately 19,000, the youth demographic is growing rapidly.

Data shows that the number of permit holders under the age of 16 rose from 2,397 in 2023 to 3,374 last year. Additionally, the number of high school students and university students has doubled in two years, increasing from 727 in 2023 to 1,494 in the most recent year.

The PZW supports this growth through 57 local fishing clubs that offer various activities, including summer camps, schools, and competitions. To fish from age 14, individuals must pass an exam to obtain a lifetime fishing card from the local district office, in addition to a permit issued by the Kielce PZW District.
