Fishing season begins in Turkey with abundance of bonito
The 2026-2027 fishing season has officially commenced in Turkey, marked by a ceremonial opening at the Ankara Wholesale Fish Market attended by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş. During his visit, Yavaş met with local fishmongers to discuss the new season and listen to the needs of business owners.
In the Black Sea region, the season has opened with an abundance of bonito (palamut), which is currently being sold for between 140 and 180 TL per unit. Fishermen expect this abundance to last for at least three to four months. Other available varieties include horse mackerel and anchovy at 220 TL per kilogram, sea bass at 750 TL, and sea bream at 650 TL per kilogram.
