Authorities have recovered the body of Major Trần Văn Tùng, a battalion commander in the 568th Infantry Regiment, after he disappeared while attempting to rescue a man from the Trà Lý River in Hưng Yên province.

On the morning of September 12, Major Tùng encountered a young man, identified as Đ. V. L., who was showing signs of a suicide attempt near Bo Bridge. After successfully persuading the man to abandon his plan, Tùng prepared to transport him home. However, the man suddenly jumped into the river. Tùng immediately removed his uniform and jumped in to save him, but both were swept away by the strong current.

A large-scale search operation involving approximately 190 personnel from the military, police, and rescue teams, along with local fishermen, was launched. Major Tùng's body was located on the evening of September 13, approximately 350 to 400 meters downstream from Bo Bridge. Reports indicate that the second individual, Đ. V. L., was also located later that evening.

Hưng Yên Provincial Party Secretary Phạm Quang Ngọc visited the family to express condolences, praising the officer's courage and sense of responsibility in the face of danger.
