FISI and Sestriere aim to bring Alpine Skiing World Cup back to Italy

The Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) and local authorities in the Western Alps are moving toward a formal memorandum of understanding to revitalize competitive skiing in the Sestriere and Bardonecchia regions. The initiative involves collaboration between FISI, the Western Alps Committee, Sestrieres Spa, and local municipal administrations.

A primary goal of this partnership is to bring the Alpine Skiing World Cup back to Sestriere. Beyond major international events, the project aims to strengthen the entire competitive movement by utilizing local infrastructure for athlete preparation. Bardonecchia is expected to host training for speed disciplines on tracks meeting federation safety standards, while Sestriere will provide snow-based training facilities and summer training resources, including its athletics facilities and sports palace.

Officials, including FISI President Flavio Roda and Western Alps Committee President Pietro Marocco, indicated that a formal agreement is expected to be signed by the end of the month to systematize cooperation between the federation and local entities.
