FISU delegation visits Erzurum to inspect 2029 Winter Games preparations

A delegation from the International University Sports Federation (FISU) visited Erzurum, Turkey, to conduct field inspections and evaluate preparations for hosting future international university sports events. The visit included meetings with local university rectors and government officials to discuss infrastructure, logistics, and the city's capacity to host major competitions.

Discussions focused on Erzurum's goal of hosting the 2029 FISU World University Winter Games, building upon the experience gained from the 2011 Winter Universiade and the upcoming 2028 European University Winter Games. University leaders, including the rectors of Atatürk University and Erzurum Technical University, emphasized that their institutions are prepared to provide scientific, academic, and human resource support to ensure the success of these global events.

The FISU delegation, which included General Secretary Matthias Remund, inspected existing sports facilities and organizational areas to assess current infrastructure and identify necessary improvements. The coordination between local universities, the provincial governorship, and sports federations is being prioritized to manage the logistical requirements of the upcoming games.
