Fitch upgrades CEC Bank rating to BBB+ amid consolidation gains

Fitch Ratings raised the long‑term issuer rating of Romania’s state‑owned CEC Bank, moving it from BB to BB+ with a stable outlook and assigning a BBB‑ rating to its long‑term deposits. The agency highlighted the bank’s stronger capitalisation, prudent risk management and its ability to withstand adverse economic scenarios. Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare said the upgrade confirms that recent consolidation measures, digitalisation investments and expanded financing capacity have delivered results, strengthening the bank’s role in supporting Romanian SMEs, agriculture and infrastructure projects. Fitch’s assessment underscores the importance of transparent, disciplined financial practices for public banks and signals greater funding capacity for the Romanian economy.
