Fitness experts offer guidance on menopause and core training

Fitness experts provide guidance on managing physiological changes during menopause and optimizing core strength training.

Personal trainer Álvaro Puche explains that the drop in estrogen during menopause alters metabolic signaling, leading to decreased muscle mass, loss of strength, and weaker bones. This hormonal shift can increase cortisol levels and insulin resistance, which promotes visceral fat accumulation around vital organs. Puche suggests that interval walking may be an effective strategy to combat these changes rather than simply reducing food intake.

Regarding abdominal training, trainer Domenic Angelino of the International Personal Trainer Academy advises training the core two to three times per week. He notes that daily abdominal exercises can hinder recovery and reduce training intensity. Achieving muscle definition also requires managing body fat percentages through a combination of exercise, nutrition, and adequate sleep.
