Fitness trends: tai chi walking and Bulgarian squat gain popularity

Tai chi walking is a low‑impact exercise that blends slow, deliberate steps with coordinated breathing. A 2026 meta‑analysis in Frontiers in Public Health found it significantly improves balance and reduces fall risk in healthy older adults, while also enhancing posture and mental well‑being.

The Bulgarian squat, a single‑leg strength move, has been highlighted by Brazilian singer Ana Castela, who added it to her leg‑and‑glute routine. Trainer Cássio Fidlay notes the exercise targets the quadriceps, glutes and hamstrings and demands core stability and coordination, making it useful for building muscle and correcting strength imbalances. Both practices are attracting attention as accessible ways to boost balance, strength and overall fitness without specialized equipment.
