Fito Páez protests security conduct during Mar del Plata concert

During a concert in Mar del Plata at the Polideportivo Islas Malvinas, Argentine musician Fito Páez interrupted his performance to protest the actions of the private security staff. The singer expressed intense frustration after observing security personnel repeatedly ordering audience members to remain seated instead of allowing them to stand, dance, or sing.

Páez compared the security's behavior to authoritarian repression from Argentina's past, stating, “I don't want to feel the 70s in my country again.” The incident, which included the artist throwing a microphone, went viral on social media. Following the show, Páez clarified on Instagram that the security team was not hired by his representatives and expressed concern over the naturalization of such authoritative behavior in public spaces.

The Sindicato Único de Trabajadores de Control de Admisión y Permanencia (Sutcapra) issued a statement repudiating the musician's comments. The union defended the workers, stating that no employee deserves to be “insulted, humiliated or dehumanized” for performing their duties, and urged that any grievances be handled through institutional channels rather than public insults.
