Fiume o morte! documentary explores D'Annunzio's occupation of Fiume
The documentary film “Fiume o morte!” by Igor Bezinović, which examines the 16-month occupation of Fiume (now Rijeka) by Gabriele D’Annunzio in 1919, is being featured through various cultural and educational initiatives.
A screening of the film will take place on October 6 in Fiumicello Villa Vicentina, Italy. Organized by the ANPI Udine provincial committee with regional support, the event features scenographer Anton Špacapan Vončina. The documentary uses a non-conventional approach, blending archival footage and interviews with contemporary residents of Rijeka who participate in historical reconstructions.
Additionally, the association “Djeca susreću umjetnost” has released free methodological materials designed for educators. These resources aim to help students aged 14 and older use the film to analyze film language, critical historical thinking, and the relationship between art and ethics.
