Five Carabineros officers charged in Chillán for multiple crimes
A prosecutor in Chillán formalized an investigation against five Carabineros officials from the city's Second Police Station, accusing them of a range of offences committed while on duty. The charges include criminal association, illegal raids without judicial authorization, robbery in occupied dwellings, micro‑trafficking of drugs, robbery with intimidation, illegal coercion, falsifying public documents, obstruction of investigations, false complaints and illegal detention.
The court ordered preventive imprisonment for four of the accused, deeming them a danger to public safety, while the fifth was placed under total house arrest and barred from contacting the other co‑accused. The identities and faces of the officers were kept confidential. The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the Carabineros Internal Affairs unit (Saicar). Three of the accused are officers and two are sub‑officers.
