Karachi: Five family members found dead in Ahsanabad apartment

Five members of a family, including a doctor, his wife, and three young children, were found dead in a locked apartment in the Ahsanabad area of Karachi. The bodies were discovered after neighbors reported a foul smell emanating from the flat.

Initial police investigations suggest the deaths may have occurred several days prior to discovery. While no signs of physical violence, torture, or forced entry were found, authorities are investigating the possibility of poisoning or collective suicide. Post-mortem examinations conducted at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital have ruled out visible injuries from sharp objects, but the official cause of death remains reserved pending chemical analysis and laboratory reports.

The deceased, identified as Dr. Umar, had reportedly been diagnosed with kidney cancer and had recently resigned from his position at a private hospital. Neighbors noted the family had been facing financial difficulties, including the recent closure of a local clinic and attempts to sell household items.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar and the Inspector General of Police have directed officials to conduct a transparent and swift investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
